clinical significance

The Uric Acid test measures the level of uric acid in the blood, a waste product formed from the breakdown of purines, which are found in certain foods and drinks. Elevated uric acid levels can indicate gout, a form of arthritis, as well as kidney stones and other kidney disorders. Low levels of uric acid may be associated with liver disease or certain metabolic disorders.
