clinical significance

The Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) measures the rate at which red blood cells settle in a vertical tube of blood during one hour. It is a non-specific marker of inflammation and is elevated in various inflammatory conditions such as infections, autoimmune diseases, and certain cancers. This test helps in diagnosing and monitoring the progress of inflammatory diseases.
